Caboolture has plenty to offer visitors and residents alike. In addition to its close proximity to beautiful Bribie Island and the gorgeous Sunshine Coast, it’s located right on the doorstep of the iconic Glasshouse Mountains, named by Captain James Cook. Here’s a quick look at what there is to see and do in and around Caboolture.
Popular with visitors of all ages, the Caboolture Warplane Museum is a small museum with an impressive collection of warplanes. What’s unique about this flying museum is that many of the WWII warplanes are still functional and can be booked for joy flights. A great place to take the grandkids.
A beautiful garden with a walking track that follows the Caboolture River, Caboolture Lakes is a popular place to go for a stroll, take the grandkids to play or have a barbecue with family and friends in attractive surrounds. The walking tracks to the rear of the Lakes connect with the new tracks on the Morayfield side of the river and are full of wildlife, particularly birdlife, with a variety of native ducks and water birds visible at most times of the day.
A large, sprawling living history museum that’s a popular destination for school trips, the Caboolture Historical Centre is located at the Caboolture Showgrounds which is where the Sunday morning markets are held. There are over 70 buildings and more than 100,000 museum pieces, so it’s a place to come back and visit again as there’s just so much to see and do.
The Glasshouse Mountains are striking from a distance and even more impressive up close. Most have accessible viewpoints, with Mount Beerburrum and Ngungun two of the more easily accessible, though there are gentle walking tracks around each, including the imposing Tibrogargan.
A pretty museum and art gallery on the drive to Bribie Island, the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology is well worth a visit. There are often interesting art and historical exhibitions on and the annual Medieval Festival is extremely popular. Don’t miss it!
